Thula iNyoni (which is the Zulu translation for Quiet Bird) came about as a lockdown project in 2019 and was officially opened to the public in 2024.
The intentional design and decor of the cabin, and the layout of the unique outdoor ablutions and facilities are the inspiration from a combination of many wild camps and lodges I have visited during my travels through Africa. I express my passion for nature and birdlife through the creativity and handiwork in the construction of Thula iNyoni. This started during the COVID-19 lockdown period and continued between work cycles over my field-guiding career and finally came to completion on returning permanently to the family farm.
Thula iNyoni is situated on Mona Glen Farm in Richmond KZN. This has been in the family name for over 50 years and is currently home to 4 generations of the Walsh family who farm sugarcane, beef, timber, and macadamias which surround the Indigenous forest and cabin area.
