Experience the simplicity of self-catering accommodation in our rustic forest cabin. The cozy bedroom, complete with a fireplace, provides a warm and inviting space. The kitchen is equipped with essential utensils, a bar fridge, and solar-powered appliances, allowing you to enjoy a comfortable off-grid stay.

To enhance your experience, we provid bed linen, towels, firewood, and 10 liters of drinking water. (Additional firewood is available on request at an extra cost.)

Our Story

Thula iNyoni (meaning "Quiet Bird" in Zulu) is a rustic birding accommodation, originally conceived as a lockdown project in 2019, and officially opened to the public in 2024.

"Every detail of the cabin, from its design and decor to the layout of the unique outdoor ablutions and facilities, was inspired by the many wild camps and lodges I visited during my travels through Africa" says Tyron Walsh, founder of Thula iNyoni. His passion for nature and birdlife is expressed through the creativity and craftsmanship that went into constructing Thula iNyoni. What began during the quiet months of the COVID-19 lockdown, evolved between work cycles of Tyron's field-guiding career, and finally reached completion on returning permanently to the family farm.

Thula iNyoni is nestled within an indigenous mistbelt forest on Mona Glen Farm in Richmond, KwaZulu Natal. The farm which has been in the family name for over 50 years is currently home to four generations of the Walsh family who farm sugarcane, beef, timber, macadamias and poultry.
